This morning I got out early to beat the heat and harvested my potato “crop.”  Considering that the whole thing was an afterthought when I planted two sprouted red bliss spuds I guess it turned out pretty good. I’d estimate I got about three pounds of small new potatoes.

The whole crop grew in a four-foot row that I mounded up from time to time and mulched with oak leaves. Harvesting was pretty easy. I started out with a claw-like tool and ended up just going through the loose sandy soil with my hands to located the little spuds.

Was it worth the work? I’ll have to answer that one after we have those little potatoes boiled up and seasoned with some of that beautiful dill and butter. I’m guessing they are going to be pretty darn good.
